Whether you’re a military member visiting one of our PIT Pads or a spouse staying in one of our temporary housing Crash Pads, there are plenty of fun things to do in San Antonio that you don’t want to miss!

While staying in one of our Military PIT Pads in San Antonio, TX you may be looking for some things to do around the city.

There are plenty of options available that are sure to keep you busy. While there are a few places on the outskirts of town, most activities will take place within the city itself. Below is a list of activities that you can enjoy while staying in one of our Military PIT Pads here in the beautiful city of San Antonio.

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in America and is rich in Texas history. San Antonio has plenty of museums that teach about everything from aerospace to Spanish culture. If you have kids, they can learn about dinosaurs at the Natural Science Museum or get an up-close look at reptiles at the San Antonio Zoo!

Riverwalk

The Riverwalk is a popular tourist attraction, and for good reason. The Riverwalk is a series of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues along the banks of the San Antonio River. It’s located in downtown San Antonio and is free to visit!

Fiesta San Antonio

Fiesta San Antonio is a celebration of the city’s history and culture. Fiesta is a 10-day festival that takes place annually in April to commemorate the Battle of Flowers during the Texas Revolution. It has been celebrated since 1891 and has grown into one of the largest festivals in Texas.
The festival is free to attend, but there are many activities for adults and children alike to enjoy. There are parades daily from April 1st through 9th, including an El Grito parade on March 31st (Mexican Independence Day). Take part in this event by dressing up as your favorite Mexican character! There are also amusement park rides and fair food available for purchase at various locations throughout Fiesta week at affordable prices!

The Alamo

Remember the Alamo, a mission in San Antonio. It was the site of a battle between the Mexican army and Texas settlers. The Alamo is considered by many to be one of the most important battles in Texas history, and it’s also one of the most popular tourist attractions in San Antonio.

If you’re a fan of art and history, leave your PIT Pad and go to the San Antonio Museum of Art. The Witte Museum has interactive exhibits and programs, as well as live animal shows. It’s also home to an impressive collection of Native American artifacts and historic objects (like an original copy of the Declaration of Independence!). For something more family-friendly, head over to the San Antonio Children’s Museum. And if natural history is more your thing, be sure not to miss Brackenridge Park Nature Center—it’s got everything from dinosaur bones to live animals!
